Important Notices from Esty Ranch

At the request of numerous customers, we've converted from 14"x18" to 16"x18" small square bales TO MAXIMIZE TRAILER LOAD WEIGHTS AND REDUCE FREIGHT COSTS.

Effective with the 2009 hay crop, bale length has been increased from 34"-36" to 36"-38", and bale weight has been increased from an average of 55-65 pounds/bale to 70-80 pounds/bale.

A 53' single drop hay trailer will hold approximately 680 16"x18"x36-38" bales, depending on the bale weight. At an average of 75 pounds/bale, 680 bales would be approximately 25 tons of hay, which, combined with the weight of the truck and trailer, is the maximum GVW (Gross Vehicle Weight) of 85,000 lbs. allowed in the state of Colorado for agricultural products. As the hay ages and individual bales "shrink" in weight, an additional layer of bales could be added to the trailer load to maintain the maximum Colorado GVW.

Additionally, also at the request of numerous customers, effective with the 2009 hay crop, 3'x3'x8' large square bales (750-800 pound bale weight) will be available, and will contain the same high quality grass hay as our small square bales. Now, Esty Ranch customers can buy either convenient small square bales or more economical large square bales of Esty Ranch grass hay.

Note: Maximum GVW on US interstate highways is 80,000 lbs., which would reduce the tons of hay able to be legally carried on the trailer by approximately 2-3 tons (21-23 tons).
